Message send to parents last week:
In Science, we have been working through our Hearing and Sound unit. We have been working and continuing to learn about vibration and pitch, how to measure sound and how sounds travel. To further explore these concepts, students will be building a sound-proofing device.
While construction for our sound devices will be done at school on June 19, the materials must come from home and will be due at school on Monday, June 19. Please work with your child to brainstorm ideas about the design and gather materials, but leave the construction for class time.
Here are some things to keep in mind when working with your child:
- The device must prevent sound or dull a given sound
- Students must choose an object that makes a sound and can be dulled/made quieter when placed in the soundproof device. Some examples include: coins, small objects that can be shaken, small toys that make noise etc.
- Students are free to use whatever material they see fit, given their knowledge of sound
- Box must be no bigger than 100cm
- Students will be constructing Monday, June 19
Have a great week,
Mme Barbara
